Euro 2024 qualifying: England and Italy start with wins
England kick off campaign with 2-0 victory over Ukraine
Italy also victorious, beating Malta 2-0
England and Italy made winning starts to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaigns on Sunday, with both teams claiming 2-0 victories.
England hosted Ukraine at Wembley Stadium and took the lead in the first half through Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal winger fired home from close range after good work from Jack Grealish.
England doubled their lead in the second half through Harry Kane. The Tottenham striker headed home from a corner, his 54th goal for his country.
In the other Group H match, Italy also claimed a 2-0 victory, beating Malta away from home.
Nicolo Barella gave Italy the lead in the first half, before Giacomo Raspadori added a second after the break.
The results leave England and Italy top of Group H after the first round of fixtures. Ukraine and Malta are bottom of the group, without a point.
The road to Euro 2024 is a long one, but England and Italy have made a positive start. Both teams will be confident of reaching the finals in Germany next summer.
